Eko Hot Blog reports that the Delta State Police Command says nine students who were abducted while travelling along the East-West road in Ughelli, Delta State, have regained their freedom.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the new development in a statement late Monday night.
Recall that gunmen had abducted the students last Friday night.
Edafe, while confirming the incident, said the victims may have been students who were returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State, before they were abducted from the minibus they were travelling in.
He said no ransom had been demanded yet but the police had already swung into action in search of the abductors and their victims.
“The Command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” the police spokesperson in Delta tweeted on his X handle.
Providing an update a few hours later on Monday night, Edafe said all victims had regained their freedom.
“All nine of the victims have regained their freedom pls,” he wrote on X.
This abduction came as some students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) were also abducted in Cross River.
The three students, according to a source from the school, are Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final year student of the same department.
