EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Labour Party’s National Executive Council, headed by Alhaji Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, has suspended 12 party executives, among them Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
Apapa’s leadership announced the suspension during a meeting held in Bauchi State on Wednesday, citing alleged anti-party activities and unruly behaviour as the reasons.
According to a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting, the suspended members were accused of issuing a statement without proper authorisation from the party.
The statement goes on to state that the party chieftains were suspended due to their involvement in activities deemed contrary to the values and principles of the Labour Party.
The communique partly reads: “That the NEC in session also considers the action of twelve (12) of its members namely: Obiora Ifo, Kenneth Okonkwo, Pst. Mrs Adebayo Ekong, Com. P.G. Igene, Egnr. Adeola Adebanjo, Pst. Funke Awolowo, Sam Emeka Okpala, Barr. Folusho Leigh, Folakemi Collins, Com. Olubunmi Adesanya, Lanre Adenuga and Dr Olatubosun Oswald for their anti-party activities and unruly behaviour against the party leadership which include issuing statements without the authority of the party.”
“The NEC in session, therefore, suspended them from the party.”
