Leverkusen’s Alonso Backs Arsenal, Liverpool As Premier League Contenders
Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, has weighed in on the Premier League title race, predicting that Arsenal and Liverpool will be strong challengers to Manchester City this season.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that following Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night, Alonso praised Arsenal’s potential.
He highlighted the impact of Mikel Arteta’s leadership and the club’s ongoing project, which he believes will make them a formidable contender in the upcoming Premier League season.

Alonso, who guided Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title last season, also recognized Manchester City’s continued dominance but suggested that Liverpool, along with other top clubs, will also be serious competitors in the title race.
Reflecting on Arsenal’s recent performances and their squad enhancements, Alonso emphasized the intriguing competition ahead in the Premier League.
When asked about his top pick for the Premier League title, Alonso stated: “Arsenal, for sure. It’s not just about last year; they have been building a strong project. Mikel is leading a great team at a great club. They will definitely be in the mix with the big teams.”
He added, “City will be there; Liverpool is coming strong, along with others.”
