Following incessant fire outbreaks, Altitude Group Ltd a company with interests in Health and Safety Consultancy and procurement and more in consultation with Lagos State Safety Commission on Wednesday went on a sensitization visit to Ijora Market to Sensitise men and women on how to take precautionary measures to avert any fire disaster.
During the sensitization visit to the market which was led by Rolake Odusi, HSE Lead Officer who tutored market operators and their leaders on basic precautionary measures to be put in place so as to avert fire outbreaks.
According to Rolake ,we are here to sensitize them on the things to do to avert fire outbreak which includes having fire blankets and extinguishers in their stores and homes, proper storage of petroleum products, avoiding the use of substandard wiring and illegal electrical connections, removing every obstruction like displaying of wares on access roads within the market for easy access during emergency and availability of water in the market for immediate solution in case of emergency.
“Also, setting fire on refuse generated within the market should stop. And most importantly, the security men and traders in the markets should have the contacts of the fire services and emergency numbers so as to reach out in time, if there is a case of fire outbreak at night.”
“We are here to converse for the economic development of the state, we don’t want incessant fire outbreaks in our markets and we know that all these fire outbreaks are as a result of our peoples negligence and carelessness.
“Our people should be careful in handling fire because any mishandling can lead to a disaster.”
The Iya Oloja General of Apapa, Alhaja Hafusat Popoola appreciated the good gestures of the team at sensitizing them against fire outbreaks and the practical demonstration on how to use the fire extinguishers and blankets.
She Promised the cooperation of the market men and women to take proactive steps against fire outbreaks by making necessary provisions for the safety measures required in the market down to traditional means.
