In a statement, the police revealed that Sunnberger has been charged with “Uttering Threats” and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in courtroom 107.
The statement also noted that the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offense.
The viral video sparked widespread outrage in Nigeria, prompting the Nigerian House of Representatives to demand her prosecution.
The lawmakers wrote to the Canadian government, urging them to prosecute Sunnberger for inciting violence and genocide against the Yoruba and Benin communities.
