Amanda Amaeshi, a passionate activist and social justice advocate, has been named My Life My Say’s 2024 “Changemaker of the Year.”

Amanda, a final-year Law student at University College London, was chosen through a public vote. She stood out among notable nominees, including climate advocate Clover Hogan and artist Jordan Stephens.

Her father, Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, described the award as a recognition of Amanda’s commitment to driving meaningful change. He highlighted her exceptional work as an inspiration for others striving to make a difference.

Amanda’s activism began in 2017 when she won the Young Reporters for the Environment competition in Scotland for her solutions to food waste. She later served as an ambassador for Scotland’s Year of Young People in 2018, where she championed youth involvement in politics and the protection of young people’s rights.

Over the years, Amanda has taken on several leadership roles. She has worked with Scotland’s First Minister’s National Advisory Council on Women and Girls, contributing to inclusive policies. Her involvement with groups like Girlguiding Scotland, Intercultural Youth Scotland, and the Young Women’s Movement Scotland has furthered her efforts in promoting gender equality and fighting racism.

Her father commended her ability to inspire action and create awareness, stating, “Amanda uses her platform to engage leaders, challenge norms, and push for collective action against injustice.”

Amanda has also written for The National, using her articles to address social issues and encourage readers to take meaningful steps toward change.

In her acceptance speech, Amanda expressed her gratitude, saying, “This recognition means so much to me. I’m inspired by everyone who supported and believed in my journey.”
