American rapper, Malik B, has died at age 47.
Malik B, a founding member of the Roots and grammy award winner’s death was confirmed at the group Instagram page on Wednesday, 29 July.
Although the cause of his death was not disclosed, the group said he will be remembered for his devotion to Islam.
“It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Basit. May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam.
”His loving brotherhood and his innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family and extended family in our time of mourning such a great loss,” the group wrote.

Malik B, from Philadelphia, joined The Roots in the Nineties alongside founding members Questlove and Black Thought.
While a member of the band, The Roots released four albums: “Organix”, “Do You Want More?!!!??!”, “Illadelph Halflife” and “Things Fall Apart”.
Malik B also featured on The Roots albums Game Theory (2006) and Rising Down (2008).
He left the band in 1999 to pursue a solo career, releasing the album “Street Assault” in 2005, and an EP titled “Psychological EP” in 2006.
For the album, “Unpredictable” in 2015, he collaborated with producer Mr Green.
