Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire to keep Marcus Rashford at the club, despite the forward suggesting he might seek a “new challenge” outside of Old Trafford.

Rashford, who has been with United since his youth days, made the comments following his exclusion from last weekend’s derby against Manchester City. The 27-year-old has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club since debuting in 2016 but has struggled for form over the past 18 months, including losing his place in England’s squad for the summer’s Euros.
Amorim’s decision to leave Rashford out of the squad for the City game was followed by an interview where the player hinted at leaving United after a 20-year association. When asked about Rashford’s comments, Amorim revealed he had not spoken to the forward yet but stated that Rashford was still part of the squad and ready for the next match.
Responding to whether he would be happy to retain Rashford, Amorim made it clear that he valued the forward’s talent. “This kind of club needs big talents, and he’s a big talent,” Amorim said, emphasizing that his focus was on helping Rashford perform at his highest level.
Amorim also referred to Rashford’s “new challenge,” suggesting it could be found at United, where the club is currently struggling in 13th place in the Premier League. “This is the biggest challenge in football,” said Amorim, acknowledging the difficulties but also the potential for redemption. “I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.
