EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Gboyega Oyetola to challenge the result of the July 16 governorship election before the Election Petition Tribunal.
The PDP said it was yet to be served with any election petition, adding that neither the governor-elect nor the party was worried by the alleged petition.
The Osun State APC chairman, Gboyega Famoodun, on Thursday, hinted that the party had concluded plans to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP and the governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke before the Election Petition Tribunal over the outcome of the poll.
Reacting, the PDP described the decision as “a wasteful voyage and an exercise in futility,” and condemned the approach, labelling it as “anti-people and a challenge of God’s will”.
In a statement by the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle, he stated that the mandate given to Adeleke by the Osun people had come to stay.
He added that, “we are yet to be served with any election petition. Neither the party nor the Governor-elect is worried by the alleged petition as the election that produced the winner was adjudged to be of global democratic compliance.
“This just concluded election passes a test of best practices in electoral processes with the effective application of the electoral act which shut down all rigging plots and schemings of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
