  • Police has spoken about the alleged murder of INEC Chairman in Anambra State.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the police has debunked the widely-circulated reports that the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was assassinated in Anambra on Tuesday.

The social media was awash with claims that the INEC Chairman was assassinated on Tuesday by unknown gunmen terrorising the Sourh-East region of the country.

However, the police, while reacting to the claims via a statement by the Zonal PRO/Head of Police Media Team for the Anambra governorship election, DSP Nkeiruka Nwode, on Tuesday night, debunked the widely-circulated information.

Nwode noted that the INEC Chairman held a stakeholders meeting in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Tuesday just as he stated the preparedness of the commission to hold a peaceful election in the state.

“Security agencies are ever ready to enforce their statutory responsibility to ensure hitch free exercise,” he stated.

Nwode further appealed for caution by members of the public and appealed to internet users to avoid contents that do not reflect the current state of security, saying, “The CP want to state unequivocally that the publication is false and absolutely misleading.
