The Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Basil Ejidike, has declared that the party is determined to defeat Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the 2025 governorship election, citing his alleged failure to protect lives and property.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, on Monday, Ejidike, represented by the state Assistant Secretary, Chief Sam Oraegbunam, insisted that Soludo and his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had failed the people and should not be given a second term. He urged voters to reject APGA in the upcoming election, blaming the governor for the rising insecurity in the state.

“So in the face of the insecurity situation that is threatening the people in the state, the second tenure depends on performance in the first tenure, but the governor has failed. Look at the level of killings, but the governor never cares,” he said.

Ejidike also referenced the recent jailbreak involving two suspects accused of killing Onitsha South 1 lawmaker, Justice Azuka, calling it an “ugly story” that highlights the state’s deteriorating security situation.

The APC chairman argued that Anambra should align with the APC-led Federal Government to receive more developmental benefits. “Most South-East states are APC. APGA is a local party, not recognized at the national level. Anambra is the centre of the South-East, and we have to get dividends of democracy from the APC-led government down to the South-East zone.”

The event also marked the official defection of APGA chieftain Ejike Madunagu to APC, a move party leaders described as a major political gain. Ejidike hailed Madunagu, a businessman with interests in Abuja, Awka, and Oba, as a “big fish” who would help APC secure more votes in the area.

APC’s zonal chairman (central), Augustine Muomaife, emphasized the importance of joining the ruling party, stating that “politics is a vehicle” and the APC has the “federal might” to bring development. “In 2027, five governors will decamp to APC. We are serious about winning this governorship election to get our share of the national cake,” he added.

Madunagu, in his remarks, said he defected due to the insecurity in the state and the lack of support for businesses under APGA. “Lives and property are no longer safe. My business, Juliemon Estate, operates in Abuja, Awka, and Oba, but APGA leadership could not assist my business. I resolved to join a national party, APC-led Federal Government.”

The APC Oba Ward 1 chairman, Okwudili Maduemesia, celebrated Madunagu’s defection, describing him as a well-respected figure who would attract more supporters to the party. “With Ejike’s presence, we are sure of victory in Oba. He is a philanthropist and loves progress wherever he is,” he said.

Similarly, APC Ward 1 woman leader, Chukwuka Ogochukwu, expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating that “APC is the party to beat, and we are sure of victory in Agu Awka (Government House) by November 8.”

The APC continues to position itself as the alternative to Soludo’s administration, leveraging defections and security concerns to rally voter support ahead of the 2025 election.
