Anambra Assembly Approves N607 Billion 2025 Budget
The Anambra State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 budget of N607 billion proposed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The approval came after a motion by the Majority Leader, Mr. Ikenna Ofodeme, who represents Ekwusigo Constituency.
Speaker of the House, Dr. Somto Udeze, described the budget’s passage as a sign of strong cooperation between the legislative and executive branches of government. He praised the government’s success in implementing about 80% of the 2024 budget and expressed hope that similar progress would be achieved with the new budget.
Dr. Udeze also encouraged residents of Anambra State to support Governor Soludo’s administration by paying their taxes.
During a media briefing, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, explained that the budget was approved without any changes to the overall amount. However, adjustments were made within the allocations for different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to better address urgent needs.
The budget allocates N139.5 billion, or 23%, for recurrent expenses, while N407.5 billion, or 77%, is designated for capital projects.
Okechukwu noted, “The total budget remains as the governor presented, but we made some internal adjustments, including changes to certain codes, to help the government access funds more effectively for pressing needs.”
The approved budget reflects the state’s focus on development and infrastructure while maintaining fiscal discipline.
