Anambra Guber: Voter Registration Commences June 28 – INEC
- Ahead of the Anambra gubernatorial election, INEC has said Voter registration will commence June 28.
Ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election slated for Nobemebr 6, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated continuation of voter’s registration to commence on June 28.
Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Anambra State, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, disclosed this while giving an indication that the electoral umpire has also increased polling units in Anambra from 4,608 to 5,720 during Stakeholders’ Forum on Expansion of Voter Access to Polling Units in Awka, on Monday.

According to Orji, the expansion became necessary as the commission last expanded its polling units more than two decades ago.
“From INEC records, the existing polling units were created 25 years ago and some of them today are in locations where they no longer promote healthy electoral activities. Some of the polling units are located in front of shrines, some in private buildings and others in churches,” he said.
Explaining that INEC kicked off the process about two weeks ago, Orji said that already, additional 1,112 new polling units have been added to the existing 4,608 polling units in the state.
This, he said, was aimed at enhancing participation during elections, especially during the global pandemic.
