EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s primary opposition party, recently screened Senatorial contenders and recorded its first casualty in the person of Tony Nwoye.
We learnt that prior to the PDP Screening Panel’s disqualification for the Anambra North Senatorial Election 2023, Tony Nwoye was attempting to secure the opposition party’s ticket for the 2023 general elections
Tony Nwoye, a senatorial aspirant for Anambra North who only recently pivoted back to the party after crossing carpeting to the All Progressive Congress (APC), is said to have come under fire as a result of reports and petitions filed against him in relation to his alleged penchant for thuggery, assassinations, cultism, and the widely celebrated burning of the Anambra State Government House in 2004 when he was said to have led a team
There are also rumors that a notable senior citizen from the country’s southeast, who once took Tony Nwoye under his wing, had previously filed a petition against him that bordered on a fraudulent collection of monies by false pretenses.
PDP sources revealed that the panel made this decision to avoid a situation in which a liability of this scale would fly the party’s ticket, jeopardizing its chances in the general election.
It was gathered that he is not taking any chances in the upcoming general elections, believing that given the current state of the country, which has seen Nigerians reject the APC, it has a good chance of assuming power, and that the only way to do so is to present credible and sellable candidates with track records of service delivery and unimpeachable characters.
