Anambra State Governorship Election 2021: SDP Takes Another Step Towards Agu-Awka
- Cutting of the Tape to Declare the Secretariat Open
As political parties and gladiators continue to strategize for the Anambra State Government House, Agu-Awka, the race has heated up. Approximately five political parties appear to be vying for the coveted seat. PDP, APGA, APC, YPP, and SDP are examples.
The Anambra State Government House, according to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has a higher moral and spiritual claim.
Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was the first democratically elected Governor of Anambra State. Unfortunately, General Sani Abacha cut short his reign in 1993.

At Agu-Awka, the party feels it has unfinished business. According to the party’s State Chairman, Dr. Webster Okonkwo, the mandate obtained by the party in 1991 is sacred, and the party is ready to recover it through the polls 30 years later.
The party revealed its new State Secretariat and Situation Room today in an elaborate ceremony in Awka, ahead of the 2021 Governorship election.
The State Chairman of the party, speaking to a crowd of party officials and supporters at the new Secretariat on Zik’s Avenue in Awka, said, “The SDP remains the only untainted party in the race for the Anambra State Government House.”
He opined that Nigerians, including Anambrarians are genuinely tired of PDP, APC, and APGA, assuring supporters that SDP is the fresh air urgently needed to save Nigeria from political and economic suffocation caused by years of misrule by the so-called major parties.
He made it known that the strength of the party lies in its dependence on the PEOPLE rather than money bags.
Dr. Okonkwo highlighted the pro-people ideology of the party which he noted, cannot be successfully copied by other parties.
He repeated his earlier claim that the original development Masterplan of Anambra State was developed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and that only a return to the Masterplan will activate accelerated development in the state.
In his remarks, the National Vice-chairman (South East) of the party, Chief Arinze Ekelem stated that Nigeria requires a new direction that only SDP can offer. He reaffirmed the belief of the party that SDP is the future of Nigeria.
