Annual Chairman’s Cup Tournament 2024 Kicks Off with Media Conference and Draw in Ibeju-Lekki
Ekohotblog reports that the Annual Chairman’s Cup Tournament 2024 officially kicked off on November 19, 2024, with a media conference and the tournament draw.
The event, organized by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, is focused on discovering and nurturing young talent under the age of 16 within the Ibeju-Lekki communities.
In his speech, Hon. Olowa highlighted the tournament’s purpose of helping young people reach their full potential. He cited Victor Osimhen, a renowned footballer, as an example of someone who was discovered through a similar competition.
“This tournament is about finding and supporting the talents among our young people, helping them to succeed. We hope it will inspire many to follow their dreams,” he said.
For the first time, this year’s tournament will also include athletic competitions. Hon. Olowa explained that this addition aims to provide more opportunities for young people to showcase their abilities.
“By adding athletics this year, we are offering more opportunities for young talents. Sports bring people together and provide our youth with a chance to shine,” he added.
The Chairman also spoke about the recently built Senator Abiru Vocational and Sports Facility, designed to support sports and youth development in Ibeju-Lekki. He said, “This facility is here to help our youth grow in sports and strengthen the bond within our communities.”
The tournament has become a significant event in Ibeju-Lekki, offering young athletes the opportunity to compete and demonstrate their skills.
A young football player at the event expressed excitement, saying, “This is a huge opportunity for us. It gives us hope as we chase our dreams.”
