The evacuation of the stranded Nigerian nationals from the Arabian country follows a video made by them in which they appealed to the federal government to come to their aid after being stranded at a facility for over seven months.

Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa had said that the COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for the delayed evacuation as both Saudi Arabia and Nigeria bickered over who will bear the cost of COVID-19 tests on arrival.
