Another India Based Nigerian Man Allegedly Docked By Police For Fraud

Indian police have arrested another Nigerian man for allegedly defrauding an Indian resident of N22.9 million (Rs 44.25 lakh).

The 32-year-old Nigerian man identified as Okeleve Frankline Chibundom, who lived in south Delhi”s Mehrauli area, was arrested alongside his accomplice.

According to the report, Chibundom was accused of impersonation to extort money.

He was alleged to have deceived the man by pretending to be an executive of a Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company selling herbal seeds, police said on Sunday.

Chibundom became a hunted criminal in February after residents of southeast Delhi”s Sarita Vihar made a complaint to the police against the accused.

The complainant alleged that he was told to pay the sum Rs 2,10,000 per packet when he contacted the said supplier, Arti Mukharjee.

He explained that after they had agreed on the cost, the compliant then made payment deposits of Rs 44,25,000 to the accused in different bank accounts.

According to the police, the complaint did not get the stock, and neither was he refunded.

Chibundom was identified and later arrested through technical surveillance, and by tracing bank account transactions, they added.

In a statement, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Kumar Gyanesh said that upon his arrest, the accused confirmed that he used to send bulk emails to people through LinkedIn and Facebook, promising them excellent opportunities in the business of herbal and rare seeds while his accomplice was into using fake names and spoke to the targets in Hindi to lure them into purchasing the seeds.

The police added that, during the arrest, the command also recovered mobile phones, five ATM cards, one laptop, and one hard disk used in the commission of crime have been recovered.
