Eko Hot Blog reports that Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has officially announced his comeback for September at Wembley Stadium in London, listing four potential opponents for his next bout.
The British-Nigerian boxer wants to step in the ring soon after demolishing Francis Ngannou in one round last March in Saudi Arabia.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are gearing up for their highly anticipated undisputed heavyweight clash in June.
Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua has confirmed his return to the ring at Wembley Stadium at the end of the summer, targeting September 20 or 21 for his next fight.
Joshua has hinted that his next opponent will emerge from the Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn’s event on June 1, featuring Deontay Wilder against Zhilei Zhang and Daniel Dubois against Filip Hrgovic in Riyadh.
“It’s going to be in London, Wembley Stadium. This is what I’m being told. If that’s what they say, they normally back their word so let’s go with that,” he told Talk Sport on Saturday.
“Wembley, September 20 or 21. You have Filip Hrgovic versus Daniel Dubois and Zhilei Zhang versus Deontay Wilder (on June 1).
“So providing one of those (winners) looks good – the one who looks the best, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said to me, ‘I want you to fight him.’ He’s trying to deliver what the fans want.”
After losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk, many believed that Joshua wouldn’t recover mentally and didn’t give him much of a chance to see him fight for a title again.
The Watford-born boxer switched trainers and made significant adjustments, recognizing the need to enhance his game in order to reclaim the championship title.
Since then, Joshua has silenced numerous doubters by winning all of his subsequent fights. Victories over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou reflect his regained confidence and form.
Joshua mentioned that while the list of potential opponents is brief, he’s enthusiastic about facing anyone who steps up to the challenge.
