APC: Buhari Loyalists Accuse Party Leadership of Exclusion in Lagos

  • The disgruntled APC members stressed that they had never benefited from the party structure since 2014.

Ekohotblog reports that some supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari have claimed that they have been left out of the All Progressive Congress’s Lagos State branch.

Former members of the disbanded Congress for Progressive Change are among the President’s supporters (CPC).

Remember that Buhari ran for President on the CPC platform in 2011.

The CPC was one of the political parties that evolved into the APC in the run-up to the 2015 national elections.

However, some of the President’s supporters in Lagos State have complained about their constant exclusion from the party’s plans.

They specifically noted that they have been “deliberately excluded from the recently concluded congress of the party in the Lagos State chapter”.

Members of the aggrieved defunct CPC, which is now known as APC Change Vanguard, in a petition addressed to the Chairman, Lagos State Congress Appeal Committee of APC, Barr. Fatima Zahra Umar, stated that despite all efforts upon several appeals to get involved since the eventual formation of APC in the Lagos chapter, the ACN bloc has continued to sideline their members.

The leadership of the APC Change Vanguard Group in Lagos State in the petition issued on Saturday and signed by its Coordinator, Prince Lanre Rufai alongside another leader of the group, Chief Thomas Adu described their exclusion from the State Consensus Congress held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, as appalling.

They said, “In fact, it is the usual practice of the State party leadership to conduct consensus congress by exclusion, contrary to the party’s constitution and we refrained from conducting any parallel congress.”

The disgruntled APC members stressed that they had never benefited from the party structure since 2014.

They also claimed that they had been taken advantage of despite their contributions and active engagement in the party.

They condemned the prolonged exclusion as an unparalleled act of impunity and selfishness that the party’s leadership must address immediately.

The members who were dissatisfied therefore encouraged the Congress Appeal Committee for Lagos State to take corrective measures in the spirit of fair play, fairness, and unity.

They encouraged the committee to address their concerns in order to rescue the party from clear repercussions as the next general election approaches.
