APC Decries Attack On Ortom, Says Incident Must Not Be Politicised

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the attack on the convoy of Samuel Ortom, Benue governor, must not bear the mark of political undertones.

On Saturday, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked Ortom’s convoy while on a visit to his farm.

The attack has sparked criticisms from various quarters, including his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) colleagues and northern governors’ forum, with some observers and commentators insinuating that it was an attempt to assasinate the governor over his hard-line position on the existence Fulani herdsmen in the state.

Reacting on Sunday, the APC said it is confident that security agencies will bring the culprits to book.

John James Akpanudoedehe, caretaker, APC convention planning committee, said the party “condemns the attack on the convoy of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. We thank God for his safety and praise the dutiful security details for repelling the attack”

It said all hand must be on deck to tackle the pervasive and perennial Insecurity that plagues the country, adding that everything must be done to fish out the assailants that attacked the governor.

“We are confident our security services will do everything to unravel the criminals behind the attack and bring them to book.

“The APC reiterates that we must all collaborate to end criminality in all forms. A crime is a crime and should not be politicised in any way.”

David Mark, former senate president, and Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, are among those who have condemned the attack on the governor’s convoy.
