An APC group has threatened legal action against Buhari over Emefiele’s case.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that a support group of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu identified as the South-South Agenda for Tinubu/Shettima (SSAT) has threatened to drag President Muhammadu Buhari to court.
This online media platform reports that the SSAT called on President Buhari to audit the accounts of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
According to the group, Emefiele should be suspended immediately to give way to the CBN board and the Financial Reporting Council, probe the Bank’s records unhindered.
The group in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Bitrus Nta Oliver accused Emefiele of causing economic woes in the country because of CBN’s monetary policies in recent times, and the incompetence of the bank’s governor.
The SSAT however threatened to take legal action against the president, and the Senate after 96 hours if no action is taken against the CBN governor.
The SSAT also claimed that Emefiele’s action recently has brought disrepute to the ruling APC, maintaining that an independent audit of the bank will expose the damages Emefiele had allegedly done to the Bank and indeed the Nigerian economy.
The group noted that “If we do not see any action by the President within the next 96 hours, we shall immediately launch a suit to compel the suspension of the Governor from office because as the Chairman of the Board of the bank, he cannot be a judge in his own case.
“So, he will have to step aside while the Board looks into the books alongside the Financial Reporting Council.
“Removal of Emefiele immediately as the Governor of the CBN will help redeem the economy of the country and draw it back from the brink.
“He has abused his office by using the same to get involved in politics and investors do not have confidence in our monetary policy anymore.”
