The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibeju-Lekki has announced the passing of Alhaja Alinat Oluwakemi Rufai, fondly known as Iya-Ibeji Akodo, describing her death as “the loss of one of our most treasured pillars.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement signed by Rep. Prince Bayo Balogun, the party expressed deep sorrow over her demise, calling it “the silencing of a voice that spoke tirelessly for justice, service, and the unity of our people.”

Only weeks ago, Alhaja Rufai had been elected Councilor for Ward C1, a victory that Rep. Balogun said “crowned years of tireless sacrifice, unshakable courage, and heartfelt service.” The lawmaker noted that she “carried the APC flag not merely in her hands, but in her heart,” dedicating her life to the betterment of her community.
“We mourn her as a mother, sister, confidant, mobilizer, and beacon of hope whose warmth, kindness, and resilience inspired all who knew her,” the statement read.
“Her legacy will not fade with her passing. It will live on in the lives she touched, in the causes she fought for, and in the hearts of those who will forever remember her unwavering spirit.”
Prayers were also offered for her eternal rest. “May Almighty Allah grant her Aljannah Firdaus, and may her memory remain a guiding light for all who believe in service, loyalty, and love for humanity,” Rep. Balogun said.
