Atiku criticizes INEC’s handling of elections, emphasizing the need for transparency through electronic voting to restore credibility.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, has urged opposition parties in Nigeria to unite and counter the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). During a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), Atiku warned against the country slipping into a one-party state and emphasized the importance of protecting democracy.

Atiku expressed concern about the trend towards a one-party system, emphasizing that when a country leans towards such a system, democracy is compromised. He called on IPAC members to cooperate and create a more formidable front to prevent Nigeria’s democracy from deteriorating into a one-party state.

He criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of elections, stating that the commission conducted the “worst ever general election in the country.”

Atiku highlighted the recent off-season elections in three states where INEC’s actions raised concerns about transparency and adherence to democratic principles. He insisted that until elections pass the test of transparency through electronic voting, it would be challenging for INEC to regain credibility, with democracy being the primary casualty in such a situation.
