Adichie stresses that what APC terms as tribal bigotry was the party projecting their politics on her.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigerian author and renowned feminist, Chimamanda Adichie, has spoken out against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of projecting her as a tribal person. Adichie made the statement while speaking on Arise Television’s news program on Tuesday.
Adichie, who had faced backlash following her letter to Joe Biden, the President of the United States, warned that the presidential election was marred by irregularities, and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not follow its stipulated guidelines.

She further cautioned that recognizing Tinubu’s presidency would “tarnish America’s self-proclaimed commitment to democracy and give the sheen of legitimacy to an illegitimate process.”
In response to criticisms directed at her, Adichie stated that the APC was guilty of the same thing it was accusing her of. “Tribesman is such an outdated and strange expression which I think also says something about whoever is using it. That kind of accusation is a practice of what psychologists call ‘projecting’,” she said.
Adichie went on to clarify that her support for Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, during the 2019 presidential election was not because of his ethnicity but because of her belief in his ability.
“I respect Peter Obi, but there are many Igbo men who I admire and respect, but I will never vote for them for president because I don’t think they will make good presidents. My support for Peter Obi is rooted in my belief in his ability,” she added.
