The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has announced its withdrawal from the September 28, 2024, local government election.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that this election will mark the first local government election in the state in 11 years, following the last one conducted by former Governor Peter Obi.
The party has not only withdrawn from the election but has also filed a lawsuit against Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), and the state House of Assembly.

Basil Ejidike, the state chairman of APC, conveyed this decision to local government and ward party chairmen in Awka. He argued that participating in the election would effectively legitimize what he described as “illegality.”
Ejidike criticised both ANSIEC and Governor Soludo for their perceived lack of commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
He revealed that the governor has established a tribunal at the Anambra State High Court in Awka to address any election-related disputes, but Ejidike doubts the governor’s transparency and readiness to ensure an accountable local government system.

“We are challenging the process in court because APC, as a major opposition party in Anambra State, must lead by example. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party have also sought judicial intervention regarding these irregularities, and we commend their actions,” Ejidike said.
He urged party members to stay focused and announced that APC will soon begin a tour across the 21 local government areas as part of its preparations for the 2025 governorship election in the state. The party also observed a moment of silence to honor the late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, a prominent governorship aspirant for the party who passed away.
