  • Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje commended the efforts of all stakeholders who played one role or the other in making sure that, Kano excels in the exercise.
  • He further reminded that, what is needed is, authentic list of party membership, emphasising that, “We want quality exercise. An authentic membership, that is reliable.”

The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje commended the efforts of all stakeholders who played one role or the other in making sure that, Kano excels in the exercise.

He made this commendation at a stakeholders meeting held at Africa House, Government House on Sunday.

According to him: “We are all aware how the first set of 100 registers sent per a polling unit was exhausted. And how the second set of 200 per polling units is also being exhausted in the exercise,” he appreciated.

As the effort in the state, according to him, was to make the party becomes stronger and stronger, “…we are heading to three or four million members in the state. Just look at the trend since we started the exercise,” he says.

Governor Ganduje directed that, what they want in the registration exercise, is “…inclusiveness at the optimal level. There should be no marginalisation. Register all those who wish to be registered as bonafide members of our great party. That is part of the wisdom why we have been succeeding as a party in the state,” reminded the governor.

He further reminded that, what is needed is, authentic list of party membership, emphasising that, “We want quality exercise. An authentic membership, that is reliable.”

For the 8,090 polling units in the state, the national headquarters of the party gave Kano a total of 100 registers per polling unit. But within twinkle of an eye, as observed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, all the registers were exhausted.

He added that, “the state demanded for additional 200 registers per polling unit. A list that is also about to be exhausted. Your Excellency Sir, the additional 200 membership cards per polling unit, have already been collected by members in almost 7,000 units. So there is a need for more from the national headquarters.”

The Team Lead of the exercise from the party’s national headquarters, Dr. Kabiru Matazu, acknowledges that Kano performed wonderfully well in the registration/revalidation exercise, assuring that, “We have to acknowledge and commend the governor of Kano state for taking this exercise very serious.”

Matazu revealed that, “In Kano state we get all the necessary support we suppose to get from the state government, courtesy, the governor, and all other stakeholders. This is highly commendable.

He acknowledged that, since from the start of the exercise, governor has been organising stakeholders meetings, “…this is, I think the sixth or the seventh meeting I am attending on this important exercise. His Excellency is always up and doing to make sure that we succeed,” he appreciates.

Five Sub-Committees presented their periodic reports, to the general meeting, through their respective leadership. They all gave progress report so far, as per the exercise in their respective zones.

The House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, made his presentation as the leader from Rano Emirate zone, Aminu Dabo, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), presented as the leader from Bichi Emirate and Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, former Deputy Governor, made his presentation as the leader from Karaye Emirate.

While from Gaya Emirate, Malam Saluhu Sagir Takai, a former gubernatorial candidate, made presentation as the leader from that zone and Prof. Hafizu Abubakar, former Deputy Governor, as the leader from Kano Emirate zone, made his presentation through a representative.
