EKO HOT BLOG reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will resist the plot by the opposition parties to take over the leadership of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
This online media platform earlier reported that the opposition members-elect, who unanimously formed a group called Greater Majority’, met on Tuesday to work together to influence the election of the next leaders of the Green Chamber.
The opposition members-elect also met to fine-tune strategies for using their numbers as bargaining power in their negotiations with the speakership aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Present at the meeting in Abuja were the old and new members-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Speaking to The PUNCH on the development, the APC Director of Media and Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said the ruling party will not stand by and allow the opposition parties to control the national assembly.
Ibrahim said the party leadership is doing its best to ensure there is a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assembly, adding that some people are peddling fake news to overheat the arrangement.
He said, “We are not going to witness that. All hands are on deck to ensure there is a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assembly. As the leading party, nothing will be out of control.
“Some people are peddling false information and fake news all over the place to overheat the arrangement. But I assure you that everything is (being) done in such a way that nothing untoward is likely going to happen.”
