EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a strongly worded statement issued by the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, the party expressed deep concern over what it described as the governor’s ineffective handling of the persistent insecurity in the state.
“Governor Lawal must be preparing to mark his second year in office with a broken promise,” Idris said. “The situation has worsened, and citizens are being abandoned to their fate under the weight of unrelenting attacks by armed groups.”
Idris accused the governor of neglecting his duties and lacking empathy during crises, claiming that Lawal frequently leaves the state during periods of tension instead of providing visible leadership.
He also refuted the governor’s claim that banditry victims are being treated free of charge in state-owned hospitals.
“I personally visited Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau and saw victims turned away because they couldn’t afford treatment,” he alleged.
The APC spokesman further criticised the administration for failing to develop a coherent security strategy despite multiple assurances made during the 2023 campaign.
Government Fires Back
In a swift response, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Mustafa Kaura, dismissed the APC’s claims as “baseless and politically motivated.”
Kaura argued that Governor Lawal had made notable progress in addressing insecurity since assuming office, citing improvements in several formerly deserted towns now seeing the return of displaced residents.
“Unlike the previous administration, Governor Dauda Lawal has taken decisive steps by recruiting community protection guards and increasing state support for security agencies,” Kaura stated.
He reminded critics that the Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, who governed the state under the APC, also shares responsibility in tackling insecurity at the national level.
“It is shameful that APC members try to shift all the blame to the governor when they know he does not command the security forces,” Kaura said. “They should stop playing politics with people’s lives and support the efforts being made to restore peace.”

As tensions rise between the ruling PDP and opposition APC in Zamfara, residents continue to grapple with security challenges that demand urgent and sustained intervention from all levels of government.
