EKO HOT BLOG reports that supporters of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the party’s Abuja secretariat on Monday.
Led by Professor Salihu Alizaga, a former commissioner in Nasarawa State, they expressed their displeasure with those allegedly plotting to destabilize the party.
Alizaga, who co-convenes the group “Concerned APC Members and Support Groups,” accused external forces of being behind the recent, controversial suspension of party chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
He further asserted that those aiming to remove Ganduje ultimately seek to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s potential 2027 presidential bid.
He stated, “We are here to tell the whole world that APC is one united family, devoid of rancor as few individuals in Kano State erroneously portray and speculate.”
Addressing the press, he highlighted recent media reports on the purported suspension, counter-suspension, and re-resuspension of the national chairman by individuals clearly not affiliated with the APC. They capitalized on the fickle agitations of a few disgruntled members of the APC who claimed to be from the North Central Zone.
Recalling that the concerned North Central Elders/Stakeholders Forum, led by former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute, Senator Jack Tilley Gyado, Prof Nentawe Yiltwada, among others, recently passed a vote of confidence on the national chairman, pledging their loyalty and commitment to the party’s leadership.
“Surprisingly, when we hear of North Central Zone agitation against our National Chairman, mostly it is being championed by someone from the North East and a pocket of a few people from the North Central Zone.
“We are confident that those who want the National Chairman removed are those who are interested in unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. We can not sacrifice competence on the altar of mediocrity.”
They expressed a vote of confidence in Tinubu and Ganduje, praising them “for their excellent performance. Our backing for both of you is unwavering.”
The APC national chairman lauded the supporters for their solidarity.
Ganduje alleged that the purported suspension was sponsored by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
He stated that the New Nigeria Peoples Party feared the APC’s growing strength as the party began to consolidate for the 2027 election.
