Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for being insensitive to the hardships faced by the people due to the mismanagement of the economy over the last nine years.
Speaking at a press conference in Benin City, Nehikhare accused the APC of focusing on spreading lies and propaganda to deceive the citizens of Edo State.
Nehikhare stated that despite the significant damage caused by the APC government, the party’s members in the state continue to ignore reality and propagate falsehoods to suppress the people’s desire for change.
He described it as a shameful display to see the APC presenting baseless fraud allegations against a state government committed to transparency and accountability.
“It has become imperative for us as representatives of our people in the State Government to draw the attention of the authorities and the members of the public to the plight of the Edo people and by extension the Nigerian people,” Nehikhare emphasized.

He highlighted the state’s efforts to alleviate the suffering inflicted by the APC’s governance, such as increasing the minimum wage, providing free WiFi in various parts of the state, launching a free transport scheme benefiting over six million residents since September 2023, distributing food palliatives to millions, and offering free registration for pensioners into the State’s Health Insurance Scheme.
Despite these measures, Nehikhare asserted that the people are still enduring significant hardship due to the central government’s economic mismanagement.
“It is on record how the haphazard withdrawal of subsidy by the APC Government on May 29, 2023, tossed the economy into chaos and pushed our people to the brink of starvation,” Nehikhare added.
He also criticized the APC’s policy to unify the exchange rate, which he claimed devalued the currency, increased inflation, and negatively impacted the economy.
Additionally, he accused the APC of stifling business growth by raising taxes and burdening small businesses, contributing to a resurgence of terrorism in the nation.
Nehikhare continued: “On the back of these devastations caused by the APC Government, the Party in Edo State seems to be surprisingly oblivious of this terrible situation. Just like the ostrich, they have buried their heads in the sand and have continued to gush out lies and propaganda hoping to hoodwink our people and dampen their desire to break free from the stranglehold by which the APC has shackled them for the past nine years.”
He condemned the APC for presenting fabricated evidence to pressmen and misleading the public with false fraud allegations against a state government known for its transparency and accountability.
“As a party whose foundation was built on a web of lies and deceit, there is no gainsaying, the same way they manufactured this worthless paper is the same way they manufactured the court papers that they used in misinforming and misleading the Edo people on the candidacy of the PDP candidate; it is the same manner in which they manufactured the crisis with the palace, all in a desperate effort to hoodwink the people and reawaken their completely comatose party in Edo State,” Nehikhare concluded.
