APC: We’ll Resolve All Internal Wrangling Before 2023 – Adamu

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu has expressed optimism that all internal crises within the ruling party will be resolved and all aggrieved members reconciled before next year’s general elections.

The two-term former governor of Nasarawa State and immediate past senator who represented Nasarawa West took the mantle of the party’s leadership from Governor Mai Mala Buni in March 2022 amidst turbulence in the party.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, Adamu said he believes there is the need for more reconciliation efforts now, especially after the primaries.

“I agree with you on that. Reconciliation is always a work in progress. When you are dealing with human beings there are inbuilt misunderstandings, some of them driven by ego, no more no less. Some of them are also driven by the fact that maybe somebody feels he has not been given fair hearing or deal, or our kind of politics: Muslim-Christian, ethnicity and region, that kind of stuff. These issues have their own problems.

“Like I said, it is work in progress. That means we are working at it. We are doing the best we can,” he said.

While speaking on why the APC National Working Committee resolved to field Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the party’s consensus presidential candidate, Adamu said the decision was partially informed by the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: “It is true that after consultations at the appropriate and different levels of the party, we had reasons to believe that he was the best at the time. And that was motivated partially by the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to field former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. And they have been upbeat that the position of the president must go to the South. We also know, as a matter of fact, that the PDP is predominantly entrenched in the South East, and to some extent, South-South.”

The ruling party has been enmeshed in crises since the conclusion of primaries across national and state levels, with a number of party bigwigs resigning from the APC after alleging unfair treatment by the party.

The most recent of such resignations by those who feel disgruntled by the party’s primaries is that of the the president’s nephew, Fatuhu Muhammed, who is representing his constituency in the House of Representatives.
