Apologetic Romelu Lukaku has to come back stronger

Chelsea player, Romelu Lukaku, has been through a lot in the past one or two months or so. The record signing for Chelsea, has been left out of the match day squads for some games due to rumoured clashes between him and his manager. However, all that seems to have been settled, if one is to believe the words of Chelsea’s manager, Tomas Tuchel.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of his team’s Carabao cup semi-final game against Tottenham Hotspurs, the Chelsea manager, as monitored by EKO HOT BLOG, revealed that Lukaku, having realized his mistakes, has apologized to the team and will be included in match day squads henceforth.

This is what he said: “We are happy we took the time that it needed to look on it and to talk calmly about it. This is what we did.

‘Romelu apologized and is back in the squad for today’s training which is later. For me, the most important thing was to clearly understand and believe that it was not intentional.

“He did not do this intentionally to create this kind of noise in front of a big game.

Secondly, it was the very first time. Before, when he seemed in his opinion to be ready to play from the start after his injury, and we thought he needed to readapt to the intensity a little bit more, there was never the slightest behaviour against the team.

‘So it was the very first time that we actually felt in this way. And these are very important points to stay calm, understanding that it’s not as big as maybe people want it to be. It’s also not small, but it’s small enough to stay calm, to accept an apology and to move forward.”

What really transpired behind the scene may not truly be understood, but the beautiful thing about football, is that it is a game of emotions, and as such, players are bound to make mistakes and learn from them. Lukaku may have said or done things to rattle the Chelsea management, and the club were right to punish him, but now that things seems to be have been settled, one can only hope that the man in the middle of the storm, Lukaku, has learnt his lesson and will be ready to win back the love of his club’s fans, something that may seem difficult but possible, according to Tuchel.

“He is very aware of what happened and what he created and he feels the responsibility to clean the mess up,’ began our head coach’s response.

‘Maybe we will have a bit of smell still from it. He can handle it. There’s also no other choice, you cannot expect now everybody to be to be super happy the very next day, but he is still our player and we have a lot of good reasons to make him play for us and to convince him to fight hard.” Tuchel opined, when asked if it was possible for Lukaku to win back the hearts of the fans.
