Argentina’s Copa America Ouster Ignites New Ronaldo-Messi GOAT Debate
With the manner in which Argentina fell to Brazil in the 2019 Copa America in the early hours of today, fans are always going to have their say. And that has started without much time wasted.
Argentina, captained by Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, did not do much throughout the tournament, with only a goal scored from the penalty spot as his main contribution, so unlike a player reputed for his near superhuman ability on the ball.
With goals by Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino leading Brazil to a 2-0 win, many are wondering why Messi should even be thought fit for the title of the GOAT – an acronym formed from the Greatest Of All Time.
In fairness to Messi, who has failed to win anything at the senior level for Argentina, Argentina were unlucky to have lost on penalties to Chile in the previous two finals of Copa America apart from coming agonizingly close to winning the World Cup in 2014.
But Twitter users don’t care much about that, with most saying Portugal and Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has two trophies with Portugal, is more deserving of the title and Messi’s fans in a furious fight back.
