Army Deploys Troops As Assailants Kill Soldiers In Enugu

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigerian Army has deployed troops to checkmate the activities of gunmen at Adani community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State over the alleged killing of two soldiers in the area.

It was gathered that the soldiers were killed by the assailants at a military checkpoint on the Nsukka-Adani-Anambra Federal Highway in the early hours of Tuesday.

A security source disclosed that the gunmen attacked the checkpoint at Iggah/Asaba.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the attack was confirmed by the Nigerian Army, noting that the assailants were being trailed.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachukwu, who confirmed the incident via a release, accused members of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s militant arm, Eastern Security Network, of being behind the attack.

Nwachukwu said, “Nigerian Army troops deployed to checkmate the activities of gunmen at Adani community of the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, yesterday (Tuesday), July 13, 2021, repelled the Eastern Security Network gun attack on troops’ location at the Iggah/Asaba checkpoint.

“Sadly, during the firefight that ensued, two soldiers paid the supreme price. Troops are currently on the trail of the criminals.

“We assure the general public of our commitment to providing adequate security in the general area in collaboration with other security agencies.

“We also urge members of the public to complement the efforts of the security agencies by remaining law-abiding and providing useful information on the fleeing gunmen,” the army spokesperson stated.
