Ehohotblog reports that on Friday, there was anxiety in Calabar when thunderous explosions shook the Ebrutu Army camp in the Cross River State capital.
According to reports, powerful explosions damaged the roofs of houses in neighbouring settlements near the barracks and ripped out window glass in some of them.
According to Vanguard, a local source, Ekong James, claimed the roofs of buildings in the estate where he lives were damaged.
“The last one happened some two hours ago and I have pictures of roofs shattered by the explosions. Nobody has told us what happened”.
Captain Dorcas Aluko, the spokeswoman for the Nigerian Army’s 13th Brigade in Calabar, said the Army Explosive Ordinance team is conducting a demolition exercise at the barracks that would run till Sunday the 17th.
Aluko went on to say that the reports of explosions are part of the ongoing exercise, and he urged people in the barracks’ vicinity to keep out of harm’s way during the destruction.
She appealed for calm on the part of the general public.
