Army Raids Notorious Bandit Hideouts

In a joint operation, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) collaborated with other security agencies to raid and destroy the notorious hideouts of wanted bandits gang leader Konyo Mbise in the Akwaza area of Benue State.

The statement read: “In a recent raid operation conducted on May 18, 2025, troops of the 72 Special Forces Battalion of OPWS, in close synergy with other security agencies, captured and destroyed identified bandit camps linked to a bandit leader in Konyo Gbise around Akwaza in Katsina-Ala LGA.”
The seized items included a submachine gun with a magazine, a locally fabricated rifle, 7.62mm special ammunition, a rifle butt and barrel, and 9mm rounds.
Additionally, the troops discovered three POS machines, two power generators, a mobile phone, electrical cables, a painting machine, and seven solar panels.
The raid also led to the discovery of half a bag of suspected cannabis sativa, along with portraits of wanted bandit leaders, highlighting the camp’s significance in criminal activities in the region.
Major General Moses Gara, Commander of JTF OPWS, praised the troops for their achievement and urged them to maintain pressure on criminal networks to ensure regional stability.
He also called on the people of Benue State to support military operations by reporting suspicious activities and providing valuable information to security forces, underscoring the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and peace.
