EKO HOT BLOG reports that the committee’s decision came after Apelegun ignored multiple summons, having been called to appear before the committee over five times.
On Thursday, in a unanimous motion, the committee instructed Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to apprehend Apelegun and present him at the next hearing scheduled for December 3.
The summons followed a petition from I.M. Iliyasu and Co. law firm on behalf of aggrieved members of the association, who accused Apelegun of financial misconduct. Mike Etaba, Chairman of the committee, emphasized, “We are here to ensure Nigerians’ welfare and will not tolerate any form of lawlessness,” urging the police to bring Apelegun to the next session.
In a related issue, the committee also threatened similar action against the management of Prima Factory, a Chinese-owned company located on Badagry Road in Lagos. The factory has failed to respond to allegations of neglecting Rafiu Taiwo, an employee who sustained an injury on the job and has not received the necessary care or compensation.
The committee issued a stern warning to the company, urging them to appear before the committee or face consequences, emphasizing that all employers in Nigeria must uphold their responsibility toward workers’ welfare.
