EKO HOT BOG reports that Arsenal are close to agreeing a £40 million deal to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to reports.
The Belgium international will have just a year remaining on his contract this summer and Leicester are open to selling the midfielder this summer, rather than see him leave on a free transfer next year.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that both Arsenal and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old.
But according to The Sun, it’s Arsenal who are leading the race to land Tielemans ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
The report claims that there is ‘growing confidence’ from Tielemans’ camp and Arsenal that the move will happen.
Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his options in central midfield with Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka both hampered by injuries this season.
Speaking about Tielemans’ situation in February, Brendan Rodgers conceded that Leicester would not prevent the Belgian from leaving.
“We are real as a football club. You’ll get people asking if we can hang on to these players for the next six or seven years,” Rodgers said.
“But the reality is that if a player does really well at Leicester, he may want to leave and move on to another club. For us, it’s just about being ready for that.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be boosted after their 2-1 win over Leeds United on Sunday edged them closer to qualification for next season’s Champions League.
