Eko Hot Blog reports that Arsenal etched their name into the record books with a resounding 6-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Monday, maintaining their blistering form in the Premier League title race.
The Gunners’ emphatic victory saw them become the first side ever to win three consecutive away games in the English top-flight by a margin of five or more goals.
The match at Bramall Lane was a one-sided affair from the outset. Martin Odegaard opened the scoring in the 5th minute, turning home from close range after being left unmarked. Jayden Bogle’s own goal, followed by strikes from Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Declan Rice, put Arsenal 5-0 up at halftime.
Ben White rounded off the scoring in the second half, calmly slotting home from Havertz’s cutback in the 58th minute.
Mikel Arteta’s men have been in scintillating form since the winter break, scoring an incredible 31 goals in their last seven Premier League victories. This stunning streak has built up a considerable goal difference advantage over their title rivals, should the championship be decided on that metric.
While Sheffield United set an unwanted record by becoming the first English top-flight side to concede five or more goals in three consecutive home matches, Arsenal’s relentless display saw them equal their record for the biggest Premier League away win, previously achieved at West Ham last month.
Arsenal remain in third place, two points behind leaders Liverpool and one adrift of defending champions Manchester City. However, they have the opportunity to go top with a win at home to Brentford on Saturday, ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Liverpool and City at Anfield on Sunday.
As the season enters its final stretch, Arteta’s men could not wish for better form or momentum in their pursuit of a first league title in 20 years, with 11 matches remaining.
