EKO HOT BLOG reports that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has received a boost ahead of their English Premier League (EPL) match against Leicester City on Saturday, with Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey set to return to the squad after missing the last two games due to a muscle injury.
Arteta expressed his hopefulness that Partey, who has been a key player for Arsenal this season, will be fit to play against Leicester City.
Speaking to reporters, Arteta said, “Obviously there is a question mark on Thomas, he hasn’t trained much. But it looks like he could be available. Let’s see how he trains today [Friday].”
The potential return of Partey is a welcome relief for Arsenal, who have struggled in his absence, losing their last two games to Manchester City and Benfica in the EPL and UEFA Europa League respectively.
In addition to Partey, Arsenal also received positive news regarding striker Gabriel Jesus, who is now close to making his long-awaited return to the pitch following knee surgery. The Manchester City forward is expected to be a key player for the club in the remainder of the season.
Speaking on Jesus’ progress, Arteta said, “He’s progressing well. Doing more and more on the field. The knee’s not reacting so it’s positive. We want him back quickly but respect the timeline from the doctors.”
Arsenal will hope to secure a crucial win against Leicester City, who currently sit in third place in the EPL table, four points ahead of the Gunners in tenth place.
A victory for Arsenal would be a significant step towards their ambitions of securing European football for next season.
