EKO HOT BLOG reports that Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has expressed his pleasure at Arsenal’s qualification for next season’s Champions League, stating that it is important for the Gunners to be among Europe’s elite again.

Guardiola, who led Manchester City to the Champions League final this season, emphasized the significance of Arsenal’s qualification, citing their absence from the competition for seven years as a major reason.

“Look at Arsenal. They are already in the Champions League. Ask their owner or CEO what it means after seven years out of the competition. Next season Arsenal will be playing the elite, best teams in Europe. And we’ll be there. It’s a success, absolutely,” Guardiola told a press conference on Friday.

The Spaniard’s statement implies that he looks forward to Manchester City facing Arsenal in the Champions League, as he believes the London club’s return to the competition will make it more exciting.

Arsenal has a rich history in the Champions League, having reached the final in the 2005/06 season where they lost to Barcelona. The Gunners have also made the final eight on several occasions, with their most recent quarter-final appearance coming in the 2009/10 season.
