Arsenal, contending against Manchester City and Liverpool, appeared to be in the driving seat alongside Liverpool two weeks ago.

However, things shifted in matchday 34 when both clubs suffered losses to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, respectively.

Before the Liverpool and Arsenal match, Manchester City defeated Luton Town 5-1. As a result, the defeats to their rivals placed them in the driver’s seat in the league title race.

After the game, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold suggested that Arsenal’s loss to Aston Villa was influenced by playing after the other title contenders had already played.

This midweek, Arsenal will face Chelsea at 8 p.m. tonight. On Wednesday, Liverpool will play against Everton at 8 p.m., and on Thursday, Manchester City will be in action against Brighton, also at 8 p.m.

During a press conference before the Arsenal vs Chelsea clash at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta acknowledged that playing before their title rivals is an advantage.

He said: “That helps, that really helps because then you are winning your matches and making the margins smaller and smaller.

“That’s the only thing we can do at the moment because it’s not in our hands.

“Winning as a consequence of that and bringing the margins shorter and that’s positive.”
