National leader of Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after months of a medical-related vacation that saw him reportedly spend the tail end of 2020 in the French capital, Paris.

The former Lagos State Governor had been in the news following unconfirmed rumours about battling a severe medical ailment, amid mounting speculations that the veteran politician had contracted the deadly novel coronavirus.

The APC National Leader’s media team had however refuted claims that Tinubu had contracted the novel coronavirus, nor was he by any means battling with an ailment as rumoured in the media.

As earlier reported by Eko hot blog, Tinubu’s media team held that Asiwaju had merely taken a routine end of the year holiday that had become a ritual for him in a bid to critically put the year in perspective and set targets for the one to come.

Tinubu is yet to officially announce his candidacy for the upcoming 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria, but despite his reticent posture towards the polls, has been widely tipped as the elephant in the room who could succeed the President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.

Recently, a political movement tagged SWAGA has been launched in the Southwestern part of the country. SWAGA is a movement dedicated to promoting the Presidential ambition of the former Lagos State Governor.

Tinubu continues to represent different things to different Nigerians, but there is a widespread feeling that Asiwaju’s political tact, acumen and exceptional man management skills could serve as a valuable tool towards re-engineering Nigeria’s socio-political space.

Within the Lagos State Political arena, there is no gainsaying in the fact that Tinubu has become a cult hero having etched his name in gold with giant political strides that has put Lagos state firmly on the launchpad to becoming Nigeria’s most robust economy, and Africa, by extension.

It is on the premise of the former Governor’s proven political credentials that many in Southern and Northern Nigeria have whipped an enormous amount of momentum and support for Asiwaju’s Presidential ambition.

Recently however, a chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq, advised Tinubu not to contest in the highly anticipated 2023 Presidential election.

Bamgbose noted that although Tinubu has not actually publicly made known his intention, his body language shows he is very much interested in throwing his hat in the ring.

Bamgbose, who is nursing a presidential ambition of his own, held that Tinubu’s political antecedents qualify him as one who has accomplished just about everything in his political career and should therefore hand over the baton to the young and budding generation to continue the race to making Nigeria great again.

But then, however one chooses to parse this reality, should the highly respected Asiwaju of Lagos decide to throw his hat in the ring ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, will be force to be reckoned with as the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari continues to intensify.
