  • Details Emerge From The Meeting

President Bola Tinubu met with Ogoni leaders on Tuesday at Aso Villa, Abuja, and urged them to reconcile and work together for a brighter future. He encouraged them to let go of past grievances and focus on unity and progress.

The President assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to ensuring a clean and sustainable environment in Ogoniland.

“We cannot change history, but we can fix some mistakes as we move forward. Anger won’t heal the wounds—we must build mutual trust, consult widely, and embrace peace and development,” he said.

President Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to lead discussions and involve all stakeholders in consultations. He stressed the need for trust, cooperation, and inclusiveness to tackle challenges and bring lasting development to Ogoniland.

“This meeting is a great opportunity to engage with Ogoni leaders. Years ago, I partnered with your children to fight against military rule in Nigeria. Many of your sons here were my friends and allies. I know what must be done to honor the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for justice,” Tinubu added.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the President for his support and emphasized the importance of restarting oil production in Ogoniland. He promised that the delegation would follow the President’s guidance and work with stakeholders to achieve their goals.

The National Security Adviser also commended the Ogoni people for choosing dialogue and expressed confidence in their commitment to peace and progress.
