The Syrian army command has reportedly informed its officers that President Bashar al-Assad’s rule has come to an end, as militants claim control over the capital, Damascus, according to a military officer speaking to Reuters on Sunday.
The announcement follows reports that Assad has left Damascus for an undisclosed location. Meanwhile, militant groups declared they had seized the city and proclaimed the fall of Assad’s government.

In a statement, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali signaled the government’s willingness to cooperate with the militants and facilitate a transfer of power to a transitional administration.
“I remain in my home and have not left because of my commitment to this country,” Jalali said in a video address. He further pledged to report to his office as usual and urged citizens to refrain from damaging public property.
The developments mark a dramatic shift in Syria’s ongoing conflict, raising questions about the nation’s political future amid the transition.
