Aston Villa may have just secured a rare bundle of talent, as they completed a loan deal for former Liverpool playmaker, Philippe Coutinho, on Thursday night. This was announced on Aston Villa’s social media pages immediately after the deal was sealed.
The Announcement
“Welcome, @Phil.Coutinho! Aston Villa and FC Barcelona have agreed to terms for Philippe Coutinho to spend the rest of this season on loan at Villa Park.” The club posted on Instagram.

The Steven Gerrard effect
Aston Villa may not have been Coutinho’s preferred choice of Premiership club, but surely his move to Villa would have been made much easier, as Steven Gerrard, his former teammate during his stint at Liverpool, is the current manager of Aston Villa.
In 2013, Liverpool completed the £8.5m signing of Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan and he spent five years at the club. During his time at Anfield, Steven Gerrard was the club captain, and together. While at Liverpool, Coutinho won several individual awards.
Why not a return to Liverpool?
Transfer rumors had it that Coutinho would have preferred a move back to Liverpool, but Liverpool never submitted a bid for him. As a matter of fact, Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp in charge, would never have re-signed Liverpool, as it is understood that in 2017 when Klopp took charge of Liverpool, he pleaded with Coutinho to remain at Liverpool and build a legendary status, a plea that fell on deaf ears, as Coutinho signed for Barcelona.

A good move for Aston Villa
Apart from some medicals to go and a few papers to sort out, Aston Villa is expected to officially unveil their star man. What this means is that Aston Villa has gotten a midfield magician to help them push further for league honours.
