The Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the legitimate PDP governorship candidate for Edo State, dismissing Philip Shaibu’s challenge.
Eko Hot Blog reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has affirmed Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the duly nominated and authentic governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
In a judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho, the court ruled in favor of Dr. Ighodalo in the suit marked CS/469/24, confirming that he was appropriately nominated during the PDP primaries held on February 22nd in Benin City.
The court’s decision dismissed the case brought against Dr. Ighodalo’s nomination by the plaintiff, former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. Shaibu had challenged the validity of the primaries, but the court found no merit in his claims.
Dr. Ighodalo emerged as the governorship candidate during the primaries at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. He secured a total of 577 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Philip Shaibu, along with 10 other aspirants.
This victory underscored his popularity and support within the party.
Justice Omotosho’s ruling has put to rest any controversies surrounding the PDP primaries, paving the way for Dr. Ighodalo’s candidacy in the upcoming gubernatorial elections. The judgment reaffirms the democratic process within the party and the legitimacy of Dr. Ighodalo’s nomination.
