  • The striking lecturers are demanding, among other things, a review of the ASUU-FGN 2009 Agreement, adoption of the UTAS system as its payment system, payment of promotion arrears etc

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bayero University Kano (BUK) has directed all students residing in the two campuses of the institution to vacate the hostels and entire university premises on or before March 20.

A statement issued by the university’s Information and Publication Secretary, Bala Abdullahi, on behalf of the University Registrar, noted that the action by the management followed the extension of the ongoing warning strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU) for another two months.

“The management would from the said date, suspend the provision of all municipal services to the hostels,” the statement added.

The statement further stated that the steps were adopted to “forestall any unforeseen act of criminality as well as the attendant consequences.”

The development is coming less than 24 hours after management of the University of Ibadan (UI), had on Thursday, shut down the institution indefinitely, thereby ordering all the students to vacate their hostels within the institution with immediate effect.
