ASUU Strike edges Towards Suspension As Both Parties To Meet Next Friday
The lingering industrial action embarked upon by the Acedemic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) seems to be edging towards suspension as both parties have scheduled another meeting slated to hold on Friday, November 27th, 2020.
ASUU and the Federal Government contingent have been locking horns during the course of the 8-month old strike in a bid to settle differences and return the students to the lecture theatres, but all prior negotiations seem to have ended in a deadlock with both parties remaining unmoved in their standpoints.
Among the key issues in contention include unpaid allowances of University lecturers, unremitted funds for the revitalization of public universities and the adoption of the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).

Eko Hot Blog had earlier reported that Federal Government had yesterday extended an olive branch to the union by offering funds to the tune of N65n for lecturers’ unpaid salaries in an effort to bring an end to the lingering strike action.
On the contentious Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS), ASUU has informed the Federal Government that it had carried out a demonstration of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) to all of stakeholders and end users on Thursday, November 5, at the National Universities Commission (NUC), where some stakeholders raised questions that had been addressed.
In the light of recent events, there seems to be hope rising that the next meeting, as scheduled between the warring parties will lead to the much needed compromise that will bring an end to the protracted industrial action and return the students to their lecture pavilions.
